The Grateful Hen is a business specializing in the breeding and sale of specific types of chickens; light brahmas, silver death layers, and golden death layers. For this project I was commissioned to create a logo loosely based off of the band The Grateful Dead's dancing bear illustration, but with chickens. Each chicken is designed after one of the three specific breeds, and there are six total in order to show both a hen and rooster of each.
During the design process, the client and I chose to revise the way the illustration style looked; we went from more realistic but still cartoon-style chickens, to chickens modeled after a human figure wearing a chicken costume. This revision is shown at the bottom of the project. In making this change, the logo evolved to further resemble the free-spirited bear characters that inspired the idea.
